"Natural: occurring in conformity with the ordinary course of nature; not marvelous or supernatural; formulated by human reason rather than revelation; being in a state of nature without spiritual enlightenment."
"Supernatural: unable to be explained by science or laws of nature; of or relating to an order of existence beyond the visible observable universe."
Why would a believer with full access to the power of God settle for a "natural" life? Yet millions of us do.
Not me. Not anymore. Here's why.
Jesus Rejected a 'Natural' Life
"Then Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do. For whatever He does, likewise the Son does" (John 5:19).
"I can do nothing of Myself. As I hear, I judge. My judgment is just, because I seek not My own will, but the will of the Father who sent Me" (John 5:30).
Jesus knew the vast limitations of walking as a natural man. He knew that living in his flesh was a life of impotence for kingdom impact.
Paul Embraced a Supernatural Life
"Brothers, when I came to you, I did not come with superiority of speech or wisdom, declaring to you the testimony of God. ... My speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God" (1 Cor. 2:1, 4-5).
Demonstration of His Spirit and power.
That's walking in His supernatural. That's where I'm going.
What Does Living Supernaturally Look Like?
The book of Acts. Every page of Acts drips with how the early church walked in supernatural power in all aspects of their lives. This book is our model for a supernatural life.
More specifically, living a supernatural life focuses upon understanding and unleashing:
- God's Motivational Gifts: prophecy, ministry, teaching, exhortation, giving, leadership, mercy (Rom. 12:3-8).
- Jesus' Leadership Gifts: role of apostle, prophet, evangelist, teacher, pastor (Eph. 4:11).
- Holy Spirit Power Gifts: word of knowledge, word of wisdom, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, different kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues (1 Cor. 12:8-10).
- Fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Gal. 5:22-23).
What Blocks a Supernatural Life?
1. Fear. For many, you've never attempted to use these gifts before. It's just like learning to dive into a pool. You start slow, then build up to the 10-foot board. Fear is quickly overcome with proper practice (see key No. 1 in "Our Unfair Advantage: Unleash the Power of Holy Spirit in Your Business," p. 70).
2: Ignorance. Many do not realize how many of these supernatural gifts are indeed for you. Or we simply have not been taught what they are and how to access them (see above). Ignorance is easily overcome through mentoring, training and teaching on all the gifts.
[Hundreds of resources are available here at Ministry Today and Charisma Media to help you learn and grow into a supernatural life. Take advantage of them.]
3: Bad Doctrine. This is the elephant in the supernatural room! Too many centuries of bad doctrine have distorted and deceived millions of believers into settling for less than their anointed access.
"Those powers were only available to the first century saints" we've been told. Many point to one piece of one verse that says, "tongues, they shall cease" (1 Cor. 13:8). That full verse also says that knowledge shall cease. Question: has there been any new, fresh knowledge added to the world since A.D. 100? You cannot take one piece of one verse (out of context) and create an entire doctrine from it. Yet when it comes to a supernatural life, that is exactly what has occurred.
It's Time
Living in supernatural power is totally within your reach.
Leading and working in supernatural power is desperately needed in the marketplace.
Supernatural living should be the new normal for all of us.
Frankly, natural/normal living should be totally distasteful, unpleasant and unacceptable.
Simply put: it's time for God to put His super upon your natural!
