How Your Words Can Determine Your Ministry's Success—Or Its Failure

As agents of God on earth, we must realize and take seriously that the words we speak will create an environment of some kind—either for increase or decrease, for victory or defeat, for health or sickness, wealth or scarcity. Words create or destroy.

Hope comes when we speak the hope given to us by God. As Solomon wrote, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit" (Prov. 18:21).

A man in our church owned a great business that started suffering during the economic downturn. The man took an unorthodox approach: He told God he would speak only words of faith and even stopped listening to radio and television newscasts. Since that time, his business has seen remarkable growth.

In Ezekiel 37, God showed the prophet a pile of dry bones. He didn't say, "Go buy some glue and put these bones back together." No, God said to speak to the bones, prophesy to them. That's when the bones began supernaturally coming back together (Ezek. 37:1–7). If we do the speaking and decreeing on earth for our King, He'll work the miracles, whether in marriages, businesses, churches or nations.

Ambassador, Rise Up and Speak Up!

As ambassadors of another kingdom, we are allowed to speak with supernatural power; not our opinions, but what our King speaks. We cannot afford to speak our own opinions or parrot the scoffers.

When a reporter asks, "How do you feel about the gay marriage decision?" or, "What's your opinion of the abortion issue?" I respond, "Since I am an ambassador of another nation, I am only permitted to say the same thing as my King says about those matters." Jesus Himself will work with us miraculously if we let Him.

"Then they went forth and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs" (Mark 16:20).

As citizens of a holy nation, we must march to the beat of God's drum, not the beat of modern culture. We must once again become the conscience of our culture by teaching the doctrine of Christ as the first-century church did. They obeyed God rather than man and responded to the Holy Spirit rather than what was popular.

The professing church today is heading in two opposite directions. Some are sliding into political correctness, a social agenda and a false ecumenicalism (calling it unity). The second group is advancing deeper into God's Word, God's plan and dependence upon the Holy Spirit. I choose that direction!
