I am so thankful that Moses was not a perfect man, aren't you?
Although Moses is renowned as a powerful leader, a writer of the law, a composer, a singer and a man of wisdom, he was certainly not a perfect man.
Moses killed a man in cold blood. I have never done that and I would suppose that most of you have not committed that particular sin, either.
I have been guilty of arguing with God a time or two; the great Moses has been known to do the same.
And yet, under the leadership and watch of Moses, the imperfect man, one of the greatest breakthroughs in all of history occurred.
The power of God reversed the natural course of creation and a breakthrough of epic proportions ensued while Moses was leading the people of God.
Theologians believe that over 2 million men, women and children marched across a pathway of dry ground where only moments prior there had been a raging and deep sea.
Imagine for a moment that you were there on that day of eternal consequence.
Listen for the winds of heaven blowing upon the waters of the Red Sea. Close your eyes and picture the waters congealing and solidifying like massive walls. See through the eyes of faith and history as an entire nation passed through the dry highway that only God could have engineered.
Hear the jubilant cries of the women as they led their children out of harm's way and into the land of promise.
See the fear on the faces of the fathers turn to incredulity and then become a victory grin that washed away the possibility of death.
Watch the aged and wrinkled dance across the place of His protection and into His provision.
When I am anxious and can find no way of escape, I must remember that I serve a God who is able to make a way where there seems to be no way.
"Your way is through the sea, and Your path in the great waters, and your footsteps are not seen. You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron" (Ps. 77:19-20).
God revealed Himself in authority and provision at this ordained moment not so that someday Charlton Heston could star in a movie.
God demonstrated to Moses, to Israel, to Egypt and to all the generations to come that He is an earth-shaking, history-making God.
He is the God of the breakthrough; the breakthrough that belonged to Moses now belongs to you!
For those of you who feel trapped today ... breakthrough is on its way!
For those of you who have been hunted down by a fierce and intimidating enemy ... breakthrough is on its way!
For those of you who don't know which way to turn ... breakthrough is on its way!
For those of you who have despised your past and have lost your hope for the future ... breakthrough is on its way!
For those of you who have failed God ... breakthrough is on its way!
For those of you who have been waiting for God to move for many decades ... breakthrough is on its way!
"See, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not be aware of it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert" (Is. 43:19).
God will indeed make a way for His children even if He must change the course of nature to do it. The God of the breakthrough is fighting for your destiny at this very moment. Take your eyes off of your circumstances and look toward heaven! The God of the breakthrough has not forgotten you and will not abandon you in your moment of desperation.
The God of Moses is the God of you and He is still the God who is able to breakthrough on behalf of His dearly loved children!
"But Moses said to the people, "Fear not! Stand firm! And see the salvation of the Lord, which He will show you today. For the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see again. The Lord shall fight for you, while you hold your peace" (Ex. 14:13-14).
